PROOFING:
Rodent proofing may be needed and this seals off the holes where rats and mice have got in. This can often be done by a DIY'er or we can quote for it. It is pointless to proof where it is not needed or is too expensive and occasionally only a certain amount of proofing may be recommended and other parts of the treatment plan will be concentrated on to ensure success. In some cases, especially the late Victorian terraced housing in certain areas of Brighton, innovative proofing techniques are required and the use of rat blockers can be advised. Rat blockers will need to be taken out once a year, checked and put back. Some properties may need the door frames sealed properly or steel sheeting fitted. Often, rat proofing is about trying  the cheapest solution first. Modern pest management includes advising the customer on the most efficient course to take.

Rodent proofing, the sealing off and blocking of the entrances rats and mice use to enter our properties, is usually identified during the initial survey. We offer a comprehensive service and can advise on the most efficient and cost effective methods to use. Specialising in rodents means we are highly skilled in finding all the little nooks and gaps rats and mice use and create to get into our homes. Multi award winning Nordisc rat blockers are used extensively.

Proofing of premises to prevent future incursions of rats and mice is at the core of what we do. With over 30 years experience and specialising in rodent pest prevention during the winter months means we have the edge when it comes to stopping rats and mice coming back for good. From finding and filling the tiny entrance holes rats and mice use to enter your property to fitting rat blockers on sewer outlets, we know what works best, where and when. We are streets ahead when it comes to sorting out rodents exactly where they hide out. Knowledge has been built up over the years of the various types of buildings built in Brighton and Hove over the centuries and how they are laid out, rats and mice use the various gaps, cavities, voids, nooks and crannies to work their way around our homes mostly unseen. Using this knowledge means the very best value and most efficient treatment can be recommended, often saving the householder a small fortune in not wasting their own money.

Rat and mice pest control in Brighton and Sussex area is carried out 24/7.

Any rodent jobs large or small, we deal with them all!

We offer the best prices for pest control in Brighton, Hove and Sussex area and can get your property free of rats and mice in no time.

Although we can eradicate present rat and mice pest problems, it may require extensive rodent proofing and following the recommendations as set out in the survey report may be needed to permanently exclude rats and mice from the property. In some areas of Brighton the buildings are so old and full of voids, may be listed or in a conservation area or the rodents are coming in from next door and is a property for where there is no access and so permanent rodent exclusion is not possible.

Rats and mice are controlled using  Integrated Pest Management Solutions which are tried and tested methods, developed over many years, combined with the most safe, humane and modern industry standard techniques. This can halt a rodent problem fast by using monitoring and control treatments combined with disruption methods and future proofing which creates a near permanent pest-free solution which will eliminate or reduce the need for further treatments. The end result is a safe and pest free building achieved at a lower cost to the customer, we can save our customers a small fortune in needless expense.

RAT BLOCKERS:
We offer a range of packages to install a rat blockers in the sewer outlet to prevent rats entering buildings. The initial survey is £50 and a range of packages can be recommended depending on the type and size of sewer pipe. Some pipes are awkward to fit rat blockers in and so a suitable blocker from the vast range available will be recommended during the initial survey. Surprisingly, we have found that where the sewer drains have been prone to wet wipe blockages a cheaper version fitted a certain way is much easier to maintain.

SEARCH DOGS:
If you have seen a loose rat or mouse running around the house and believe it is hiding amongst your belongings we can find it with one of our specialist trained rodent search dogs and the source of the problem can be swiftly dealt with. The dog can then sweep the remaining rooms for any others lurking amongst your belongings and locate the entry points which can be proofed to stop any more getting in. Our search dogs are quiet, calm, methodical, they work to a 100% success rate with rats and can guarantee to track them down in your property unless they have found their under the floorboards or somewhere. Off work they live at home as family pets There is a minimum charge of £65 for search dog requests, unless carried out as part of the initial treatment. Warehouses and large buildings are priced on arrival and the property will need to be inspected beforehand to ensure a safe  working environment for the team.

CAMERAS:

In recent years we have advanced the use of cameras used in various ways. We may use an endoscope to look into cavities so we dont need to dismantle the buildings structure, we may use telescopic cameras or we may use trail cameras that are left in peoples lofts to check and monitor rodent activity. Indeed, we were probably the first innovators in the use of trail cameras in the UK and our footage has been viewed on Youtube since 2010. Nowadays even more tiny remote cameras are used and the footage gives us an insight into rodent behaviour not seen elsewhere and can help us give our customers the best service. CCTV is more used recently to find out how, what and why rodents are in peoples properties and although not cheap their use is far more cost-effective than lots of visits that solve nothing.

SAFETY:

Both rats and mice carry a large number of highly infectious diseases, the most serious of which can get transfered onto the food we eat or the surfaces we prepare food on after they have walked over it. We will advise on the appropriate H&S precautions to your situation and can advise on the steps forward for a landlord to take that is applicable to their duty of care to their tenants. Rats and mice can also cause 100's of £'s in property damage by chewing through electric cables and plastic water pipes.

It can be worrying to have mice scuttling around the house in the middle of the night or hearing rats chewing on flooring joists. Even the cleanest of homes can have pests even rats and mice. If you have rodents that are hiding inside your house there are immediate precautions that will need to be be carried out by the householder, both rats and mice carry a large number of highly infectious and lethal diseases and precautions against the risk of infection to the householders need to be carried out.

These may include:
1: Wiping down hard surfaces like kitchen  floors and work surfaces, floors and inside cupboards with an anti-bacterial or disinfectant like Dettol and in any rooms where the rats and mice may of been in. Rats and mice shed viruses and pathogens where they have been and so carpets may also need to be cleaned. Do not vacuum or sweep up any rat or mice droppings but first dampen the area with the disinfectant and then pick up with disposable cloths, this is to prevent any viruses, bacteria or other pathogens carried by the rats and mice from entering the body by being breathed in with the dust. Vacuums blast out air which can contain these pathogens. Always wear appropriate PPE when cleaning like rubber gloves, mask and overalls.
2: Keep all food in rodent proof containers, in the higher up cupboards and don't leave loose food out in the open, both rats and mice are expert climbers and get to most places in the house with ease.
3: Throw away all contaminated food and opened food containers even if there are no droppings inside, serious stomach complaints arise from eating food where rodents have been.

There may be other safety and hygiene tips that will be outlined as recommendations in the initial survey report that will be specific to your tailor made treatment plan.

SMELL and FLIES:
Please be aware that, although we carry out precise bait placement designed to control rodents efficiently to avoid unpleasantness and check for carcases, in rare cases a smell can develop from a body that is not retrievable but should last no more than a few days and can be balanced by the use of air fresheners and open windows. There may also be a few flies but these should go soon enough who are attracted to the light and again an open window and some off the shelf fly spray will sort out this side effect from the treatment. The dead flies can then be hoovered up.

Squirrels

Squirrels can get into peoples homes, run around their lofts and in extreme cases chew through electric cabling just like rats. We trap Squirrels humanely in 2 to 3 visits usually.

Ant Nests
Ants can sometimes enter peoples homes and cause distress. We treat ants nests with tiny amounts of a chemical designed to be taken back to the nest which kills the queen. There is no need to find the nest for a successful treatment although that can be helpful.

Frequently  asked questions

Q: What happens when pest control comes?
A: You will be asked what pests you have seen, what you have heard etc. There may be a few other questions that will help give you the best service.

Q: Are there rats in Brighton?
A: Yes, Brighton has a huge rat population and it's a full time job keeping them out of peoples homes and work spaces.

Q: How much is it to get pest control out UK?
A: Prices start from £55 for the intial survey visit and most rats and mice jobs are cleared up in 3 visits which cost £135. If the problem returns say in the next year however this will be because it was not possible to carry out the recommendations or they are coming in from underground or somewhere else. Wasp nests are £60, ants from £85.

Q: Is your service guaranteed?
A: Yes, the standard of workmanship is hut given the age and nature of the properties where we live it is not possible to guarantee  future rodents will  not come back.

Q: Is it worth paying for pest control?
A: Mice carry diseases just like rats and getting pest control in gets the problem taken care of efficiently  rather than trying out remedies with no knowledge on whether they would work.

Q: Is pest control worth it for mice?
A

Q: Can you quote for the job in advance?
A: Yes, there is a standard 3 visit charge for both rats and mice of £135. Wasp nests are £60 and ants £85 due to the high cost of materials.

Q: Will there be a smell or dead rodent bodies lying about if you lay down poison.
A: Great care and every precaution is taken to prevent this happening. What is most important is that our customers live and work in safe and pest-free enviroments, Rats and mice can infect us with diseases  and removing the present ones will obviously involve killing them. Usually they will die where they hide up which is most often out of sight.

Q: Is it worth paying for pest control?
A: Sure, it's possible to treat some pest problems with off the shelf chemicals but most people are unfamiliar or uncomfortable using them. Good hygiene may prevent some pest incursions, however we as pest control operatives know exactly what to use and where, most importantly in a safe way. In fact nowadays in 9 out of 10 jobs the rodents are seeking shelter and are not actively feeding inside the property, whereas 20 years ago the proportion was much less due to better hygene practices inside homes. One phone call to a professional can take of a pest problem without fuss or worry.

Q: Do Ultra sonic pest repellers work on mice or rats?
A: No, mice and rats are not put off by these devices. I often go to jobs where people have bought them previously and they had no effect on the rodents whatsoever, if they had they wouldn't of called me. Other deterrents like peppermint  oil also do not work.

Q: How does pest control work?
A: Every job is different and to find out how to solve the problem all jobs need an initial survey to find out what the actual pest problem is, the implications for human health and how to implement a plan. Sometimes the customer will not know what the pest is as only the damage they leave behind is visible. Sometimes only a scratching noise is heard in the walls, whilst disturbing, rodents like rats, mice and squirrels can chew through wire cabling causing a fire hazard. If they are in the loft diseases can spread to humans.

Q: What diseases do rats carry?
A: Contrary to popular belief, the most common disease spread by rats and mice to people is salmonella and not Weils disease which is quite rare now. Salmonella is a bacterial infection picked be by contamination from where the rodents have been. it is commonly misdiagnosed as gastric enteritus and is very unpleasant, the diarrhea can be painful and the stomach ache last several days. Hospital treatment can be common. Cleaning of surfaces and not eating rodent contaminated food is recommended.

Q: What is the most dangerous disease spread by rats?
A: Weils disease is actually quite rare now however "rat flu" spread by rat bites is the most dangerous. It starts with severe flu like symptoms and within days death can occur. There are recent cases in Brighton publicised in the local press of rat bites killing people.

Q: Why are there so many mice about this year?
A: Last autumn in 2021 a very dry spell of warm weather meant that mice could breed freely, the year before was a good mice breeding year as well. Also there is a lot of unmown grass around on road verges going to seed.
